The Peace Cup.

ELIMINATION GAMES. Morrinsviile’s Action Approved.

At the meeting of the management committee of the Waikato Rugby Union on Friday night an informal discussion took place regarding the Peace Cup. Mr. Haselden said that it appeared to the Waipa Union* that the Morrinsville Union was making chopping blocks of what might be termed the minor unions. They were playing the drawing ” unions first and causing Waipa, Cambridge, Piako and Paeroa to play elimination games. He thought the fairer method would be to make ail challengers play elimintion games The chairman, who is one of the I Hamilton union delegates, said the | Morrinsville union was simply following the procedure of the former holders of the cup. They were play- ] ing the challengers in the order in which the challenges were received, i They could not play more matches than there were, playing Saturdays, consequently the' later challengers would have to meet to decide which should play the holders. This was the method which had always been employed. Mr. Speight endorsed Mr. Booth’s remarks.

Mr. Chapman asked why complaints had not been lodged when the larger unions held the trophy. It appeared that some unions were hava butt at Morrinsville without cause. Waipa had previously played an elimination game—against Matamata at Te Awamutu—and Morrinsville had also had to travel to Waihi.

On the motion of Messrs. Chapman and Yardley, it was decided to write to the Auckland union asking it to call a conference of delegates from all sub-unions eligible for Peace Cup games with the view to discussing and revising the rules. -
