NO RETRACTION.

MAMAKU BUSH ROAD. Matamata Attitude. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Matamata County Council the Rotorua Borough Council wrote advising the council that the following resolution relative to the classification of the Mamabu hill road had been passed : “ That the council protests to the Minister of Public Works against the classification of a portion of the Rotorua-Cambridge main highway as a fifth-class road and requests the Matamata County Council to change the wording of the notice re 2L tons .which is erected on this road near Okoroire-Tepapa turnoff.” The engineer said the notice was put up by the Main Highways Board.

Cr. Middleton said he had been through the bush lately and this end of the road was good but the Rotorua end was not standing up to it. Cr. Cox stated the road could only stand fifth-class traffic. The engineer mentioned that the estimate for maintenance this year was £3OOO. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to reply that the council was still of the opinion that the classification was correct.
