Hockey.
Putaruru Ladies A 2, Putaruru Ladies B 1. This match was played on Saturday and resulted in a win for the A team. The B’s were strengthened by the inclusion of Misses Miller and Sneddon, while the A’s fielded three short. The game was very even and interesting throughout, the individual play of the blues continually menacing the combination of the A’s and with a better idea of shooting the scores would ha"*e been reversed. The eight A players all worked hard, and found the game fairly strenuous. For the B’s Miss Miller played a great defensive game, and Misses Beca, Benton and Sneddon were always dangerous on attack. Players of both teams should practise shooting. The tendency very often is to hit the ball and trust to luck that the direction is right. Many goals were lost in this match through over-eagerness at the critical moment. TEAMS. Putaruru A (v. Matamata). —Mrs. C. D. Brown, Mrs. A. Brown, Misses Gallagher, E. Rolfe, M. Rolfe, O. Benton, E. Daveren, E. Berg, E. Wheeler, R. Craig and G. Farrelly.
