LADIES. Putaruru 10, Matamata 1. This match, the first of the season, was played at Putaruru on Saturday. Putaruru filed out as follows : Misses E. Daveran (captain), E. Wheeler, E. Berg, R. Craig, G. Farrelly, E. Rolfe, O. Benton, M. Rolfe, R. Gallagher, Mesdames A. Brown and C. D. Brown. Goals were scored by Misses E. Wheeler (4), R. Craig (3), Farrelly, Berg and Daveran one each. From the outset it was apparent
that the Putaruru players had better combination than the visitors, the forwards excelling in short passes to each other and being well supported by their half-backs. The team as a whole played extremely well. Special mention perhaps could be made of the good work of Misses E. Wheeler, Craig, Farrelly and Daveran. Provided the team continues toplay as it did on Saturday it is assured of giving a good account of itself. One or two players have yet to learn what their correct positions are and also to try to keep theirnnsitior.s throughout the game. This applies most particularly to the halves, who must support their forwards and cut out dribbling.
