A MAGNIFICENT RESPONSE.
THE very successful carnival organised by the Putaruru Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club and brought to a close on Thursday night calls for favourable comment. The objects, the reduction of the debt on the Putaruru War Memorial Park, together with some needed improvements thereto, were worthy ones, but not even the most optimistic could have hoped for such a large sum to be raised. That a sum of approximately £3OO will be available for the purposes mentioned is : indeed a matter for congratulation, and the public are to he thanked for their generous response. The committees and workers for the three queen candidates are deserving of thanks and they have their reward in seeing their efforts crowned with such success. A pleasing feature of the carnival has been the frienfUv snirit of rivalry that prevailed. This is as it should be. The success of the carnival also demonstrates that the people of Putaruru are not only generous where a. good cause is concerned but that they have fail’" in the future of the town when they will raise such a large sum to consolidate what has already been done and to effect further improvements.
