THE PUTARURU PRESS. ’Phone 28 P.O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, MAY 9, 1929. MR. FORBES’ PROMISES.

IT is now close on two months since the Minister of Lands and patty visited Putaruru and district, and nothing tangible has yet ' presuited. The bodies organising the tour saw to it that the Minister knd his officers were supplied with details of what the farmers are doing in the way of bringing the country into a state of productivity, and they were also given the opportunity to see for themselves what has been done, despite lack of assistance from the Government. The Hon.. G. W. Forbes expressed himself as being impressed, but there the matter remains. The Chamber of Commerce, in deciding to set up a committee to draft a letter to the Minister, reI minding him of the promises made, j have acted wisely and in the best 1 interests of the town and district. To allow the matters brought before i the Minister to drop would be noth--1 ing short of folly. There is no doubt but that the town and district have a good case, and it would appear that if anything is to be achieved it will be only by keeping hammering away at the Government. All the members of the present Administration are going about the country speaking of the need for land settlement, and the encouragement of the man on the land, but a little practical demonstration of this sympathy would be worth all the talk that is being indulged in. The Tutaruru Chamber of Commerce is to be thanked for being alive to the importance of che subject, and it is to be hoped that its efforts will bear fruit.
