GAMUT BOTH WAYS.

TRIALS OF A “VET.” Amateur Dope Doctors. “ I think we should try and get a resident ‘ vet.,’ there is a good living here for one,” stated Mr. J. E. West to Matamata farmers at last Wednesday’s meeting. Mr. Rollett: Several have tried and failed. They say that a farmer doctors his cow until it is nearly dead and then calls in the “ vet.” ( Laughter). Mr. Prowse: Yes; one told me they did not call a fellow till the animal was nearly dead, and then if he told him what to do the farmer did it himself next time. (Laughter).

Mr. West; And if the cow dies he blames the “ vet.” (Laughter.) Though the meeting disagreed with him, Mr. West still maintained that despite the peccadillos of certain formers, there was a living for a good veterinary surgeon in the Matamata district.
