MATAMATA BRANCH. ; ] A meeting of the Matamata branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the Farmers’ Hall on Wednesday, Mr. T. H. Prowse presiding. Those present included; —- Messrs. T. H. Prowse, J. W. Simpson, H. C. Rollett, G. H. Seed, J - West, W. J. Prowse, J. Anderson, T. S. Ferguson and A. J. Tong- (secre- j tary). Motion of Sympathy. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs. I G. Gibson, members standing as a ! mark of respect. Resignation. Mr. E. Bowler wrote resigning from his position as a trustee for the local branch. On the motion of Messrs. Rollett and Simpson the matter was deferred till the annual meeting. Hall Hire. *. ' The Christadelphians, Matamata branch, wrote asking the terms for hire of the hall for Sunday services. Mr. Simpson pointed out the branch had to he careful not to set a precedent, an! on the speaker’s suggestion it was decided to charge the same as that scale fixed for the Ladies’ Guild. Waharoa Branch. On the motion of Messrs. Rollett and Simpson it was decided to call a special meeting at Waharoa to consider the amalgamation of tliat branch with the Matamata branch. Nationalising Highways. Mr. Rollett remarked that Tauranga County Council was aiming to get the main highways nationalised. They had no county roads, therefore nationalisation would not affect them like it would progressive counties, j He suggested that a letter be sent to * the Matamata county approving of | their attitude in opposing nationalisation.
Mr. Simpson thought that both sides should be freely discussed, and he urged that a notice of motion be given on the subject for the annual meeting. This view was adopted. MORRINSVILLE BRANCH. There was a large attendance at the monthly* meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union on Saturday evening, the president, Mr. G. Pirrit, presiding. Dr. Annett, of Matangi, the wellknown authority on grassland manuri ing, wrote acceding to the request of j the union to address members on nitrogenous and other forms of manur- i ir.g. j The president said that as it was j getting late in the season for Dr. An- i nett’s remarks to be of practical value for present operations the sooner the address was given the better. It was decided to ask Dr. Annett to address a public meeting of farmers on or about April 24. Dr. Neale, doctor of agriculture and secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, wrote in reply to the union’s request signifying his willingness to address a public meeting on farm economics. The olfer . was accepted. I The date of the annual smoke coni cert was fixed for June 22. Messrs. ; H. Howie, B. J. Pirrit, P. S. Philpott, J. Thompson, J. M. Allen and J. Johnston were appointed a committee to make arrangements. An invitation from the Te Awa- , mutu branch to attend a smoke concert on Friday evening was accepted. , Mr. L. Brink worth, of Mangate- , paru, and Mr J. Raynel, of Tauhei, were elected members of the branch. 5 Messrs. P. S. Philpott and M. E. f Barrowclough ' were appointed dele- _ gates to the annual conference of the Auckland provincial executive.
