WAIKATO RUGBY UNION. Committee Meeting. The final meeting of the management committee of the Waikato Rugby Union for the year was held on Friday at Hamilton. There were present: Messrs. T. B. Booth (chairman), A. S. Cliffe (Hamilton), T. Cooper (Referees’ Association), B Chapman (Putaruru), A. G. Yardley (Matamata), C. Speight (treasurer), W. Thompson (secretary). Finanee. The treasurer, Mr. Colin Speight, submitted a draft of the balancesheet which showed a credit on the year’s working of £67 15s 9d. This, added to the nett balance in the bank from the previous season, made the union’s credit £152 19s 6d. Of this £l2O had been on fixed deposit for some months. The total receipts for the season totalled £621 7s 3d, of which all but £29 was derived from representative fixtures. Expenses for the latter were £134 and travelling expenses £ll7 Os 6d. School Football. It was decided to allocate the New Zealand Rugby Union’s school football grant of £2O as follows: Hamilton £2, Morrinsville £2 10b, Waipa £2 10s, Cambridge £2 10s, Matamata £2 10s, Raglan £3 10s, Putaruru £3 10s, Salvation Army Home £l. Before the grant is disbursed sub■mions are to ha «ked to submit particulars of the disposal of last year’s allocations.
Annual Meeting. It was resolved that the annual meeting be held on Friday, April 26. , Early Match. In view of a probable match with Auckland • on June 3, it was decided to write to either King Country or Thames Valley Unions, asking for a match at Hamilton on May 25. Departure of Mr. Cliffe. Before the meeting concluded delegates spoke regarding the departure of Mr. A. S. Cliffe from Hamilton. The country delegates, Messrs. Chapman and Yardley, stated that while they had not always seen eye to eye with Mr. Cliffe, they recognised that the improvement of Waikato football had always been his aiih, and he could depart with the assurance that his services had been greatly valued, and his work had been well done in all departments. Mr. Cliffe, in response, Said it was a pleasure to see that differences had been settled and that Waikato football was likely to improve rapidly. He regretted his impending departure from a football point of view and wished the union all prosperity. Mr. Cliffe has been appointed headmaster at Te Puke. Waikato Tour Suggested. Discussion took place regarding a proposed tour during the coming season, and the secretary was instructed to go into the matter of travelling costs to Tauranga (Bay of Plenty), Gisborne (Poverty Bay), Napier (Hawke’s Bay), Masterton (Wairarapa) and Palmerston North (Manawhenua). The tentative tour would commence on a Thursday and extend over fourteen days.
