ACCIDENT TO VICAR.

A NARROW ESCAPE. Whilst the Rev. Ward, vicar of Naitaia, late of Putaruru, was motorfrom Monganui to Oruru, his car struck a loose plank in the Taipai bridge, with the result that it somersaulted into the stream. Mr. Ward was pinned under the car in two feet of water, but managed to keep his nose and mouth in the air until help arrived some time later.

Mr. Ward was later conveyed to Monganui Hospital, where it was found he had suffered no serious injury. It was fortunate that at the time of the accident the water was low, as the stream is a tidal one, and at high water reaches a depth of 10ft where the mishap occurred.
