AN ISOLATED SETTLER. Wants a Track. Mr. V/. Watt, of Oru-a-nui, wrote to the Matamata County Council at its last meeting, stating that his rate demand Apt year was double the previous amount. Ee had been paying rates for a good many years, and had not even a track to the nearest county road, which was 12 or 15 miles away. He asked if something could not be done to give access over the Wawa saddle so that he could get through with cattle. The old tracks were blocked by tree-planting. Cr. Cox stated there was a proper road on Mr. Watt’s property, but it would cost thousands to form it. His ' natural outlet was through the councillor’s property. At present his only outlet was by the T.T.T. railway. He had a nice farm with 100 milking cows. He suggested they reply there was no dedicated road over the saddle, and his best method was to apply to the Government for a grant to put the track to Ongaloto siding in order. So far as he knew Mr. Watts only used konakas. Cr. Allen seconded this suggestion, which was carried unanimously.
