Stock Sales.
MORRINSVILLE. A very heavy yarding of all classes of cattle came forward at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s sale at Morrinsville on Friday. Cow and heifer beef was in keen demand and sold readily at late rates. Prices were firm for most other lines. Sheep came forward in large numbers, breeding ewes selling well. The entry of pigs was a full one, but no heavy baconers were offered. Light baconers and porkers made late rates, but prices for weaners and stores showed a decided drop. Prices were:— Beef. —Four-year-old bullocks, £lO ss; three to four-year-old steers, fresh conditioned £9; store steers, i 5 11s to £7 ss; 18-months steers, £4; medium fat cows, £8 10s to £9 2s; others, £7 13s to £8 ss; fat heifers, £8 to £lO 12s 6d; light fat heifers, £7 10s to £7 17s 6d; light fat cows, £5 10s to £6 ss; forward coml’tionec cows £5 to £5 7s Cd; store cows, £2 5s to £4; cows with calves, £5 15s to £8; in-calf Jersey heifers. £5 to £5 16s; weaner heifer Jersey calves. £3 18s to £4 7s; others £3 5s to £3 14s; potter bulls, £6 10s ’o £7. Dairy Cattle.—Fresh calved cows, £8 15s to £10; close to profit, £7 10s to £8 10s.
Sheep.—Good framed s.m. ewes, 265; others, £1 Is 6d to £1 2s 3d; store ewes, 16s 3d to 17s; prime fat lambs, £1 5s 6d to £1 7s 6d; good fiamed shorn lambs 18s lOd to £1 3s Sd; small lambs, 14s 2d to 18s; woolly lambs, 15s to 18s 2d. MATAMATA. Again on Wednesday at the weekly Matamata stock sale conducted by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company there was a heavy yarding of beef and store cattle, all pens being filled. In the pigs, heavy baconers showed a further advance, and the general competition was keen. Prices:— Extra fine fat cows £lO 15s to £ll 5s ; heavy fat cows £8 10s to £9 12s 6d ; i medium fat cows £7 10s to £8 5s ; lighter sorts £6 15s to £7 2s 6d ; forward-conditioned cows £5 14s to £6 10s ; fresh store cows £4 16s Jo £5 10s ; boners £1 10s to £3 16s ; 18-months Jersey and Jersey-cross heifers r.w.b. £7 to £7 8s ; springing heifers £7 5s to £8 10s ; heavy potting bulls £8 to £9 ss, lighter £5 5s to £7 ss. Pigs.—There was a full yarding of baconers and porkers. Prime heavy baconers £3 4s to £3 13s, medium ditto £2 19s to £3 2s, lighter ditto £2 14s to £2 18s ; heavy porkers £2 to £2 12s ; medium ditto £2 to £2 4s ;lighter ditto £1 16s to £1 19s ; stores £1 3s to £1 7s ; slips 14s to 18s ; weaners 6s to 10s. HAMILTON. At the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s Frankton sale on Tuesday there was a heavy yarding of beef, and a full yarding of all classes of sheep. Beef, though in demand, eased considerably. Fat sheep showed an increase. Store sheep, particularly breeding ewes, found ready sale. Lambs were also in good demand. Light fat steers, £l3 to £l4; heavy fat cows, £lO 12s 6d to £l2; medium fat cows, £8 15s to £lO 2s 6d; lighter, £7 5s to £8 7s 6d; forward conditioned cows, £6 to £6 17s 6d; store cows, £3 10s to £5 ss; runners, £4 7s 6d to £5 15s.
Sheep.—Fat lambs, 28s 6d to 30s; fat ewes, 20s to 21s 6d; 2-tooth breeding ewes, 32s to 34s 9d; good framed 4 and 5-year breeding ewes from Gisborne, 27s to 28s 3d; s.m. ewes, 19s 3d to 255; aged ewes, 11s 6d to 16s; good mixed sex lambs, shorn 17s 6d to 19s, smaller 13s to 15s 3d. A full yarding of baconers and porkers was penned, which met with keen competition throughout at increased rates. Baconers, heavy prime, realised from £3 7s to £3 12s; medium baconers, prime, £2 18c to £3 6s; light baconers, £2 13s to £2 17s; heavy porkers, £2 5s to £2 12s; lighter porkers, £1 19s to £2 4s; stores, £1 4s to £1 9s; slips, 17s to £1 2s; weaners, 5s to 14r.
