A communication from the Thames Valley Power Board with reference to ' excessive replacements on certain street lamps stated that an old batch ■of lamps had to be used pending- the Arrival of a new consignment. i Outstanding Rates.
Messrs. Hampson and Bell wrote re * outstanding' rates stating that judgments had been secured against the owners of several sections in a company subdivision and asking if the board desired to force the sale of the sections. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and clerk to report -to the next meeting. f y By-laws. "The Department of Internal Affairs advised that a certificate of confirmation of the town by-laws had been gazetted but owing to an error in the year the procedure had to be done again. The letter stated the confirmation was now complete and drew attention to section 8 of the By-laws Act, 1910. The chairman remarked that the -department had made several errors and had taken about 18 months to get to t3)e present position. The section referred to stated in effect that any such error did not invalidate the "by-laws. Right-of-way. A plan of a right-of-way for water through Mr. N. Fitzherbert’s property from the springs to Mr. J. Hamilton’s builcing was approved. Petrol Pump.
The erection of a petrol bowser on Mr. J. C. Tomalin’s property by Messrs. Trimble and Johnson was approved. Power Board Election. The clerk to the Matamata County Council wrote suggesting that the board make application to the Gover-nor-General to fix the representation ■of the town district in regard to the Hospital Board and Thames Valley Power Board’s districts. The chairman remarked that it was a very courteous note. About two •years ago Mr. McDermott had brought the matter up and the board had written several letters on the matter. The membership of the Power Board was at its maximum, any alteration would have to be by way of redistribution. Previously it had been suggested that the board should be joined with the Matamata and Turua Town Boards. ■There was certainly more community of interest with another town district than with a county district on a matter like this. The board expressed agreement with this view and the matter was left with the chairman and clerk to deal with. Municipal Conference.
The usual letter in regard to representation at the Municipal Conference was received but no member of the board seemed disposed to make the trip. Mr. Bent inquired if there was a race meeting on the same date. A member replied that such conferences generally coincided with such a meeting or a show, but even this, and the fact that expenses were paid, failed to induce members to allow their names to be submitted. Building Permits. Building permits for a garage <£3s)for Mr. P. W. Hills and for alterations to the N.Z.C.D.C. dump <£l6) were approved.
