Hinuera.

HALL COMMITTEE, f Queen Carnival Arranged. An enthusiastic and well attended public meeting, convened by the Hinuera Hall Committee was held last yeek to make preliminary arrangements for holding a bazaar about the end of February, in order to further reduce the debt on the - hall. The following officers were elected for the various stalls, with power to add to their numbers:—Ladies convener, Mrs. J. Hayes, assisted by Mrs. A. E. Rowe; men’s convener, Mr. D. K. Mclsaac, with Mr. C. Brown as secretary; sweets, stall, Mrs. A. E. Rowe and Miss Germann; produce, Mrs. N. Griffiths; cake stall, Mrs. H. Conder and Mrs. Menzies; fancy goods, Mrs. Wheeler; refreshments, Mesdames B. Tisch and R. Swan; side shows, Mrs. James Beeby. In addition it was decided to have a queen to represent each stall, for which the following were selected: Miss Muriel Sceely, Miss Florence Settle, Miss Merle Hayes and Miss Thoral Wheeler, for sweets, produce, cakes and fancy goods stalls, respectively. All those present were unanimous about having a queen carnival in conjunction with the bazaar, and the | queens are already busy seeking votes, and various functions are being arranged by, the committees for their respective queens. The chairman, Mr. D. Mclsaac, in closing the meeting, thanked those present for the loyal support extended to the hall committee during the past year, and urged those present to make a special endeavour to persuade as many as possible to attend the next

meeting and lend a helping hand. New Year’* Ere Dance. The New Year’s Eve dance, organised by the hall committee, seems to ‘have become an established and j eagerly anticipated function. Each year increases its popularity, and last I Monday night saw a record attend- ! ance for any dance that has ever been held in the Hinuera Hall. The many town visitors spending holidays with country friends helped to augment the attendance, and the fact that between sixty and seventy cars were parked around the hall proved how the. dance was patronised by people from all parts of the country. Streamers and greenery, gay paper hats, ribbons, balloons and confetti, gave quite a carnival appearance to the scene. Music was supplied by Fennel’s orchestra, extras being played by Mrs. Malligan and Miss Kathleen Darragh. When the clock sounded the final moment of the old year, hands were joined and Auld Lang Syne was sung. Cheers welcomed in the New Year and the merriment continued.
