BATTLE OF ROUTES.

FINALLY SETTLED. Puketurua Question. A petition signed by Messrs. G. H. Bathe, H. Truss, A. V. Webby, H. W. Baldwin, H. H. Worth, C. J. Voyce, P. F. Karl, E. L. Bathe, G. C. Goebel, R. Millner, M. Connor and F. Tomalin, all settlers at Puketurua, was submitted to County Council on Friday. The petitioners requested an all weather road frorn Webby’s corner, past Mr. Tomalln’s farm, along Bathe’s flat to! Mr. Goebel’s gate. The reasons given were: (1) The route was the shortest to Putaruru;- (2) it was the route used by thd cream contractor and rural mail delivery; (3) it was the route used by the majority of settlers; (4) during ,the winter months the road was impassable for household store delivery vans; (5) no other route would serve the settlers to such advantage. The engineer - stated the money was available from riding account, Jput it was necessary to allocate a stipulated amount so that he could put same before the Public Works Department with a view to obtaining a grant.

On the motion of Crs. Cox and Judd it was decided that Tomalin’s road as requested be metalled, the question of the amount Of money to be allocated to be decided at the next meeting.
