ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

PUTARURU BRANCH, A general meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held in the secretary’s office on Thursday, 22in inst., Mr. S. C. Snell presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. J. Campbell (Tokoroa) and W. McCarthy (Arapuni). Partridges. The parent society advised that six partridges had been allocated to the branch. Mr. Bryant offered to take delivery of the birds and rear them on condition the branch paid for the feed. On the motion of Messrs. S. C. Snell and T. Cotter this offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided that information in regard to suitable food for the birds be obtained from Auckland. Angler’s Guide. On the motion of Messrs. Peters and Scholz the secretary was instructed to recommend to the Auckland Society that all necessary information in regard to angling be collected from sub-societies this season so that the angler’s guide would be available for next season. Wild Rice Seed. On the motion of Messrs. Scholz and Graydon, it was decided to apply for an allocation of wild rice seed. Rearing Trout. Mr. T. F. Snell brought up the question of rearing trout from fry locally, pointing out that the mortality rate from fry liberated direct to streams was very high. After general discussion, it was decided that an attempt be made to construct suitable places for this purpose and Mr. West (Tokoroa) and Mr. Scholz (Putaruru) were appointed to go further into the matter. Rangers. The secretary emphasised the necessity of having more rangers to control the outside territory. It was decided to recommend the appointment of Messrs. W. McCarthy (Arapuni) and T. Weir (Tokoroa) as as additional rangers. Mr. McCarthy was also appointed as Arapuni agent for the local branch and Mr. West for Tokoroa. Canadian Geese. Mr. Bryant asked if more Canadian geese could be obtained. Mr. Flyger replied that he did not think any more were available, but that if Mr. Proctor was successful in rearing goslings from those recently sent these could be distributed. Police Members. On the motion of Messrs. S. C. Snell and E. A. Scholz, it was decided to recommend the parent body to issue honorary fishing and shooting licenses to members of the police force who were members of local branches.
