Mangatapu.

Presentation to Miss Holland. Our little township was roused to the pitch of enthusiasm last week by events of more than usual interest. Miss I. Holland, who is shortly to be married, and will be leaving Mangatapu, was the recipient of a dual presentation as tokens of the esteem in which she is held locally. Her circle of music pupils and parents gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Holland and carried out a most enjoyable programme of musical items, and to mark the last of a series of such gatherings as well as to show some appreciation of the kindly interest in and capable tuition of her pupils, she was presented with a dainty silver-mounted jam dish and spoon.

On the 24th inst., the large diningroom, kindly lent by Mr. and Mrs. Winter", was too small to accommodate those who attended to pay tribute to this popular young lady on the eve of her departure. The older members present indulged in a round of card games, five hundred, crib or euchre, while the younger ones played games, etc-., in another room. A sumptuous spread of refreshments was enjoyed and her many friends took the opportunity of offering thencongratulations.

During the evening Mr. R. Knap presented Miss Holland with a beautiful case of fish knives and folks, on which an artistic inscription was engraved. In doing so, Mr. Knap said he had been asked to carry out a very pleasant duty indeed. He referred to the high place Miss Holland had gained in the affection of the people, and tendered her the best wishes of those present for her future, and offered the gift as a token of those wishes. Mr. C. E. Holland returned thanks on behalf of his daughter, and feelingly expressed the gratitude of Mrs. Holland, his daughter and himself for the very kind references tn them, and for the valuable gift. Musical honours V'ere then accorded in a most hearty fashion.
