TIRAU CLUB OPENING. - \£'i ■■■'■' ' '"7-;, if The Tirau club officially opened it? season on Wednesday with large attendances of both members and visitors. Fully thirty of the latter were present from the Matamata, Te Aroha, Putaruru, Cambridge and Okoroire clubs. The club was also favoured with the attendance of the president of the South Auckland Centre, Mr. R. S. James.
The visitors Were welcomed by Mr. T. Little, resident, who stated the club’s great pleasure that so many brother bowlers had accepted the in- j vitations. He read telegrams from others who would have liked to be present. After commenting upon the splendid feeling existing between the neighbouring clubs, Mr. Little referred to the great loss the club had sustained by the death of one of its founders, Mr. E. C. Randle. The company stood for two minutes in silence. Some sociable and keenly fought games were indulged in and a tasty afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The latter was no small fac- I tor towards the great success of the day. K At the conclusion thanks were returned by Mr. James for the Tirau club’s hospitality. It was the first time he had been to the Tirau green, and he wished to congratulate the club on the excellence of the playing : area and the progress it had made. Other speakers to reply were Messrs. A...G. Leggatt (Putaruru), R. Carruth (Okoroire), W. O. Garland (Matamata) and Sneddon (T« Aroha).
