The company stood for two minutes in silence. Some sociable and keenly fought games were indulged in and a tasty afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The latter was no small fac- I tor towards the great success of the day. K At the conclusion thanks were returned by Mr. James for the Tirau club’s hospitality. It was the first time he had been to the Tirau green, and he wished to congratulate the club on the excellence of the playing : area and the progress it had made. Other speakers to reply were Messrs. A...G. Leggatt (Putaruru), R. Carruth (Okoroire), W. O. Garland (Matamata) and Sneddon (T« Aroha).
