POLLING AT PUTARURU.

ROTORUA RETURNS. Mr. Hockly Defeated. Yesterday, Election Day, proved to be exceptionally fine, so far as weather conditions were concerned, and this no doubt eased matters so far as the polling officers were concerned, for there was no inducement for electors to defer voting in the hopes of the weather clearing as there might have been if the weather had proved wet. In consequence there was a steady stream of electors in the Putaruru booth all day, some three or four actually waiting at the doors before nine a.m. for the booth to open. * There were no untoward incidents and polling passed off very quietly. Though it was anticipated that Mr. Hockly would have a close run there were few who thought he would he defeated, and there was intense surprise when it became known that Mr. Clinkard had a majority of 184.
