DAIRY CATTLE INSURANCE.
SCHEME IN VICTOKIA. One of the most successful organisations in the Colac district cf Victoria is ’ Colac and District Dairy 'Cattle Insurance Association, "which was formed six years ago to insure dairymen against losses from pleuro pneumonia. At the annual meeting there was a large attendance of 'dairymen. The report stated that there were about 200 paid-up members with about 7,000 cattle insured. The balance-sheet Showed a credit balance of £Bl5. For the last two years no levy was made owing to the sound position of the finances- This year a levy of sixpence a cow will be made. The committee recommended to the members that the association,
in addition to insuring against pleuro, should insure against mammjtis. The , report was favourably accepted by members, and a motion was adopted to the effect that the association pay ■compensation for cows which died from mammitis, provided the existence of the disease was reported to the inspector.
