HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES.
BASIS OF ALLOCATION. Audit Suggested. j The Hamilton Borough Council wrote at the last meeting of the Matamata County Council inquiring if it would agree to the present allocation of heavy traffic fees, viz., boroughs retaining 55 per cent, and counties 75 per cent of net sums collected, with disbursements from the pool in proportion to the amount spent on roads from current revenue, being the basis for the year 1929-30. Cr. Judd thought the council should have power of scrutiny. Money spent cin Greets would include sidewalks and pavements. Then there was interest on loans. He thought an auditor should be appointed: Cr. Cox suggested the boroughs were entitled to it as streets included pavements.
Cr. Darby thought the Audit Department should do the work. On the motion of Crs. Darby and Judd it was agreed to write to the Audit Department on the matter. Cr. Judd: The proper way would be for the Audit Department to make up the claims. Cr. Cox: They are always so far behind with their work. Cr. Judd: I think they are catching up now.
