“INSPECTION A FARCE”
HEALTH DEPARTMENT. Activities in County. During the reading of account? Cr. E. J. Darby took the ODporium.y ui. the meeting of the ivlaiamata County Council to comment on the service rendered by the Health Department. Cr. Darby maintained that it should not be necessary for a riding member to bring approbium on himself by requesting that the sanitary inspector visit his district. In his opinion regular inspections should be made. Cr. Judd supported this view, stating that regular visits should be made to such settlements as Arapuni, Tirau and Waharoa. . Cr. Allen: So far as this county is concerned the inspection is a farce. Cr. Wilson remarked that the council’s contribution seemed to be a heavy one. The chairman: It works out at about 30s a week. Cr. Darby: And we get nothing for it. The long and the short of it is the inspector has been given an area which it is totally impossible for one man to handle. fine and capable fellow indeed. During nine years he has only paid three visits to Arapuni, two of which were at my request A member: I believe he goes as far as Opotiki. Cr. Judd: He has 300 square miles in Matamata county alone. On the motion of Crs. Judd and Darby it was decided to apply to the Health Department for regular inspection of certain settlements within the county to be made.
