Stock Sales.
MORRINSVILLE. A particularly fine entry of ox beef was a feature of the Farmers Auctioneering Co.’s sale at Morrinsville on Friday. The quality was equal to anything that could be seen in the North Island. All beef cattle were well represented and prices were maintained. The quality of the mutton was also good, and there was a brisk demand among buyers. Another heavy yarding of bobby calves came forward and were in keen demand, top price being 22s 6d. There was a medium entry of fat pigs and a large offering of stores. The latter made .late rates, but a slight drop was recorded in rates for fats. The number of dairy stock was below the usual quota. Good quality Jersey heifers sold well, but there was little enquiry for those of poorer quality. Prices were as follows:
Beef.—Heavy fat steers to £l7 10s, medium £ls 6s to £l6, lighter £l2 10s to £l4 18s; heavy fat cows, £l2 5s to £l3 2s 6d, medium £9 5s to £lO ss, lighter £7 5s to £8 10s; forward conditioned cows £5 5s to £6 15s; store cows, £3 5s to £4 15s; heavy fat heifers, £9 10s to £lO 10s, lighter £6 10s to £8; choice yearling Jersey heifers, £6 10s to £7 17s 6d; smaller, £4 15s to £6; Jersey cross heifers, £4 10s to £6; Shorthorn heifers, £4 to £4 ss; Holsteins to £5 6s; bulls for service, to 12igns. Bobby calves, best 16s to 22s 6d; others, 8s 6d to 14s. Dairy Cattle.—Choice Jersey heifers, £ll 15s to £l3 15s; more backward, £9 10s to £lO 10s; others, £6 10s to £8; cows, choice, £9 10s to £l2; others, £7 to £8 10s. Sheep.—Heavy fat ewes £2 to £2 3s; fat hoggets, 36s 6d; ewes with lambs to £2 ss.
Pigs.—Heavy porkers, £2 15s to £3 3s; medium porkers, £2 2s to £2 12s; light porkers, 33s to £2; good stores, 25s to 32s 6d; slips, 17s to 235; weaners, 8s to 15s.
MATAMATA. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their regular stock sale at Matamata on Wednesday, when the following rates ruled:— Beef Cattle.—Fat cows, £9 to £ll 4s; forward finishing cows, £6 to £6 17s 6d; stores, £3 to £5 15s; cows with calves at foot, £4 17s 6d to £6 15s; yearling Jersey heifers, £4 15s to £5 Is; yearling Jersey-cross heifers, £3 15s to £4 14s; 2-year-old empty heifers, Jersey-cross, £5 10s to £5 17s 6d. Dairy Cattle.—Heifers, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; Jersey-cross heifers, £6 15s to £10"15s. Sheep.—A line of fat hoggets, £2 3s. Pigs.—Large stores, £1 5s to £1 13s 6d; medium sorts, £1 to £1 3s; best weaners, 16s to 18s 6d; small weaners, 9s to 13s. MATAMATA BULL SALE. At the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s bull sale last Monday 200 pedigree and grade bulls were yarded and practically all were sold under the hammer. Pedigree Jersey hulls 21gns to 26gns, others lOgns to 19gns ; pedigree Shorthorn hulls 9gns to 16gns ; pedigree Holstein yearling bulls 9gns to 17igns ; grade Jersey bulls, yearlings, 7gns to 15gns ; grade Ayrshire bulls lOgns to 15gns ; grade Shorthorn bulls 14gns to 16gns ; grade Shorthorn yearlings sgns to 12igns ; pedigree Jersey bulls, yearlings, 13gns to 27gns ; pedigree Jersey bulls, yearlings, 9gns to 12Jgns.
HAMILTON. At the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s stock sale in the Frankton yards on Tuesday there was a small yarding of fat cattle, which sold at late rates. Prices:—
Prime fat heifers, £l2 8s to £l3; fat heifers, £9 10s to £lO ss; fat cows, £8 12s 6d to £9 forward conditioned cows, £5 15s to £6 ss; store cows, £3 17s 6d to £5 ss; 2year steers, £8 5s to £8 8s; yearling heifers, £3 15s.
Pedigree Jersey cows in milk, 12gns to 23gns; 2-year pedigree heifers, 12£gns; year-old heifers, lOgns to 15£gns; pedigree Friesian heifers, 23gns; young Jersey cows, £lO to £l2 10s; Shorthorn cows, £9 10s to £11; backward springers, £7 to £8; springing heifers, £8 10s to £lO 10s.
Fat sheep were yarded in average numbers and sold at late rates. Fat wethers made from £2 11s 9d to £2 15s; fat ewes, 28s; fat hoggets, 295; forward store wethers, 34s lOd. Pigs.—Baconers, £3 5s to £3 17s; porkers, £2 0s 6d to £2 12s} slips, 22s 6d to 30s; good stores, 31s to £1 19s; weaners, 8s to 16s.
TIRAU. At Dalgety’s monthly sale there were about 600 head of stock yarded.
Yearling heifers up to £7 2s 6d; a line of 70 yearling heifers from Messrs. Ring Bros, averaged £7; fat forward bullocks,, £lO 15s to £l2 10s; fat cows and heifers, £8 10s; forward conditioned cows, £5 15s to £6 ss. All the young stock was disposed of.
