Cricket.
MATAMATA CLUB. The Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the Mhtamata Cricket Club was held on Wednesday. Mr. W. E. Ayres was elected chairman, and in reviewing the past season’s activities stated that on the whole a successful year had been experienced. Mr. Hunt presented the balancesheet. The receipts amounted to £24 13s 7d, the expenditure to £2O 13s lid, leaving a credit of £3 19s Bd. Of the latter sum £2 14s lOd represented the profit on the social and dance. Election of Officers. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: President, Mr. A. Bowler (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Cranswick, J. W. Simpson, F. Jones, A. Crowther, J. Cummings, E. Bowler, and P. J. McNamara; secretary, Mr. T. Hunt; committee, Messrs. J. Landells, W. E. Ayres, H. Murray and Rev. Father Silk; club captain, Dr. Laurenson; delegates to Piako Association, Messrs. Ayres and Porter. Selector.
Some discussion took place on the question as to whether there should he one or two selectors. It was eventually decided that only one be appointed. Messrs. J. Landells and L. Mehrtens were nominated for the position. After a ballot Mr. Landells was declared elected. Opening Date. After discussion it was agreed that the opening of the season take place on the first Saturday in October, coinciding with the Tennis Club’s similar function; and a game with Gordon club would be arranged for that date. Pitch to be Repaired. It was reported that the cricket pitch on the domain was in need of repair, and the secretary was authorised to procure the necessary material for improvement.
