INTOXICATING LIQUOR.

IN WORKING HOURS. Council Employees Barred. “ That no employee of the council shall partake of intoxicating liquors during council working hours, and that any breach of this regulation shall be punishable with summary dismissal,” was a motion moved by Cr. E. J. Darby at the monthly meeting of the Matamata County Council at Tirau on Friday. “ One man can take six drinks and another only one without detrimental effect,” commented the chairman. Cr. W. H. Allen observed that the employees might compare such strictness with the habits of councillors. (Laughter). Councillors thought the motion was too drastic. In order to gain his point Cr. Darby modified his proposal to read that any official who as the result of drinking intoxicating liquor was not able to give 100 per cent efficiency jnight be dismissed summarily. Mf Cr. Bruce thought there was something in what Cr. Darby had said, and in his opinion no one should drink in

working hours. Cr. Anderson seconded this motion, and after some further cross-table talk it was carried unanimously.
