SIDES OF ROADS.

PROPOSAL TO PLOUGH. Following the decision of the Putaruru Town Boaid that the sides of roads bordering loan works should be trimmed up and left in a neat state, the clerk of works submitted a report dealing with the clearing, burning, ploughing and discing of some six acres for the sum of £22.

Mr. Barr Brown thought the proposal was .five years before its time. Mr. Lindsey disagreed and thought ratepayers would support it. Mr. Yandle thought the board should concentrate on the roads, and that the proposal was looking too far ahead.

Mr. Neal held that to turn the proposal down would spoil the ship for a ha’porth of tar. He felt sure the ratepayers would support the proposal and that some would do more at their own expense. They would never get the work done cheaper and it must cost more when the entrances across footpaths were constructed. Mr. McDermott thought the matter could be held up till the grading was done.

On a vote being taken it was decided by four votes to three to.defer action till the grading was done.
