MEMORIAL FUND.
} COUNCILLOR’S REQUEST. The Wellington City Council advised the -Matamata County Council on Friday that the Moncrief-Hood fuqd amounted to £I6BB 8s lOd. The Public Trustee had suggested that of this amount £750 be invested, and the P|l income (15s per week) be paid to Mrs. Moncrief, senr., and the balance divided between the two widows. On the demise of Mrs. Moncrief, senr., it .was proposed to divide the capital sum amongst the two widows. A meeting of subscribers had suggested that an increased amount jsp paid to Mrs. Moncrief, senr., and the council’s ■ view, as one of the largest subserib-’ ers, was sought. | Cr. Wilson held that all of the money should be invested for all time, ! arid only the interest paid out. Cr. Allen pointed out that the trustees had 'all the details, and knew the circumstances, and that "the council should support their suggestions. 4L- The chairman opposed Cr. Wilson’s Views as a lump sum would enable the recipients to start in business. Cr. Rollett seconded Cr. Allen’s remarks, and on the motion being put Cr. Wilson stated he emphatically opposed the apportionment as suggested and therefore dissented.
