MATAMATA STABLES. C. Carmont’s Charges. C. Carmont senior is now permanently established in the stables at Matamata recently vacated by W. Paterson. These have a bright outlook and are most suitable insofar as surroundings are concerned. The horses in active commission at present include Taumai (St. Amans Boniform mare), Alarm (by Guanaforte—Maisey Bell), Furrie, Gold ‘ Rain (St. Amans—Shower Gold), Unoco (by Some Boy II.) and a ; 1 chestnut mare (by Valkyrian) bred ‘by Mr. P. G. Harper and owned by Mr. A. Stewart. The latter horse is as yet unnamed and has done little fast work. It will probably be late next season before she is asked to race. Furry is in nice condition and will probably have its first start at Avondale. Alarm is easily the biggest horse in training at Matamata, standing 17.1 hands. Alarm was previously trained by Hall at Wanganui. Gold Rain has been let up for a while owing to leg ailment but will be £.ot ready for Avondale. Gold Rain has shown lots of pace over the battens but has been an unlucky horse. Negotiations are being made for several other horses to commence their work at Matamata under MrCarmont’s mentorship.
