PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.

81-MONTHLY MEETING. The following commissioners attended the usual bi-monthly meeting of the above board on Monday: Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), C. C. Neal, A. E. Barr Brown, H. W. Lindsay and J. C. Tomalin. Mr. A. 11. Dukeson (clerk) was also in attendance, and apologies were received from Messrs. K. McDermott and W. Yandle. Rates. The clerk read a list of outstanding rates which had been handed to the board’s solicitors for collection. Mr. Barr Brown thought several were not worth bothering about. Mr. Lindsay agreed and stated that some of those mentioned would haveno interest in their sections. Mr. Neal pointed out that all had to be treated alike, if they let some off it would soon be known and complaints made. Mr. Tomalin supported this view. The chairman urged that the whole matter be treated impersonally. Without rates they could not function, and a clerk’s main job was to get rates in. The board might possibly lose on a few, but the matter had to be viewed broadly in the saving of overdraft and collection cf Government subsidy. The full list was then approved. Balance-sheets. The Auditor-General returned the board’s balance-sheets for the past two years certified to as correct. The cierk: There is no tag on either. The chairman: I think it’s most satisfactory seeing we are a new hoard and have had so many complications as well as the loan. Members agreed that it reflected great credit on the clerk’s department.
