The Eltham Argus states that Mr. \V J. Poison will be the selected candidate for Stratford in the interests of the United Political Party. Mr. R Masters has intimated that he will not stand, and the present member, Mr. E. Walter (Reform) is not seeking re-election.
The following from the report of T the Victorian Commissioner of Police ! is of general interest in these days ■ of daily accidents : “ There are I three matters to which attention is [ directed : (1) The intoxicated driver ; ' (2) the person who drives to the common danger, more particularly the [ one who is termed the road hog ; (3) the irresponsible driver. The
first one is undoubtedly the greatest danger there is on the roads. It is little use mincing matters, and I contend that once a person has been found guilty of driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor he should be disqualified during his lifetime from driving such a vehicle.” It is up to everyone to assist those of the force who are endeavouring to protect human life from the unnecessary accidents which could not occur if more drastic conditions and penalties were forced upon the intoxicated driver.
