LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The special trip to the Government Nurseries and the Rotorua Winter Show organised by the Putaruru branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was patronised by about 36 farmers and their wives. The visitors were conducted all over the State Farm and details of the work were explained by Messrs. Page, Perram and Menzies. The trip was enjoyed by all and no doubt next year any such excursions will be much better patronised.
A rather good story is told about an old resident of the Buller district. It was thought, seeing that he was living by himself and suffering from deafness, that he would be much better off in the Old People’s Home (reports the Greymouth Evening Star). A policeman undertook to make the suggestion to him, and meeting him, remarked, after some preliminaries: “Do you not think you would be better off in the Old People’s Home?” “No,” was the reply, “ that is only for old people.” His age is 85.
