HERD-TESTING.
DISTRICT RETURNS. Figures for April. A marked decrease in the average butterfat yield on last year’s figures is a feature of the returns for April of cows tested by the New Zealand Herd-testing Association. A total of 52,188 cows was tested, giving 3941 b of milk, which with a 4.9 test made the butterfat yield 19.51 b. Last April 52,180 cows were tested and the avertestage yield was 4711 b of milk with a 4.6 test and an average butterfat return of 22.621 bof fat. District returns are as follow, with the figures for April, 1927, in parentheses:— Hinuera.—Cows 1191 (621), pounds milk 409 (416), test 4.8 (4.7), pounds fat 19.52 (19.69). Ngarua.—Cows 853 (920), pounds milk 499 (482), test 4.8 (4.9), pounds fat 24.37, second highest for the association (23.96). Patetonga. Cows 824 (1260), pounds milk 298 (442), average test 5.1 (4.7), pounds fat 15.37 (21.02). Putaruru. Cows 1151 (1194), pounds milk 338 (413), test 4.5 (4.5), pounds fat 15.34 (18.8). Tirau.—Cows 1914 (1366), pounds milk 420 (448), test 4.7 (4.8), pounds fat 19.25 (21.8). Waitoa.—Cows 1104 (1824), pounds milk 429 (526), test 5 (4.7), pounds fat 21.88 (25.16).
Peria.—Cows 1081 (1042), pounds milk 423 (434), test 4.8 (4.8), pounds fat 20.7 (21.21). Te Poi.—Cows 1439 ( —), pounds milk 430 ( —), test 4.6 ( —), pounds fat 20.21 (—). Waharoa. Cows 2010 (1267), pounds milk 452 (463), test 4.8 (4.8), pounds fat 21.87 (22.57). Kiwitahi.—Cows 731 (823), pounds milk 374 (480), test 4.9 (4.8), pounds fat 18.4 (23.41). Morrinsville. Cows 1915 (1159), pounds milk 337 (510)“, test 5.2 (5), pounds fat 17.54 (25.79). Tauhei-Tahuna.—Cows 960 (1100), pounds milk 352 (493), test 4.9 (4.8), pounds fat 17.49 (24.09).
