N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
WOMEN’S DIVISION. Putaruru Meeting. The first meeting of the recentlyformed branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday in the Oddfellows 11 all. The attendance, while satisfactory, was not as great as had been hoped, but doubtless the fact that shareholders in the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company were holding their annual meeting the next day was to a certain extent responsible for many intending members being absent.
A brief account of the previous meeting was given and letters from the Dominion secretary (Mrs. Me Alpine) were read. This lady tendered her congratulations and expressed her hope that the membership of the Putaruru branch would be greatly increased in the near future.
On the motion of Mrs. Voyce, Mesdames Worth, E. Nicklin, McKinnon, Campbell and Robinson were elected as new members of the division.
It was unanimously decided that it would best suit the majority of members if future meetings were held on the same day as that on which the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting, and that all future meetings of the Women’s Division be held in the Oddfellows Hall at 1 p.m. To meet the expense of hall hire a special rate of 6d per member per meeting was declared, the surplus of this fund to go towards general expenses.
Two groups of the Dominion Book Club were formed, Mesdames Voyce and Morrison being librarians elected in charge of the respective groups.
