NEW BUILDINGS.
“WORTHY OF ANY TOWN? Putaruru Progress. That Putaruru businessmen have a solid faith in the future of the town is borne out by the handsome new buildings which are now being erected. Spear’s garage, in Oxford place, which was occupied last week, and has already been described in these co'umns, strikes the eyes of all visitors. Its imposing frontage has drawn the comment from many that it is worthy of any town. Further along Oxford place a new shop is being erected in concrete for Mr. T. F. Snell. Work is proceeding apace and it is expected that the shop will be occupied in about eight weeks’ time. This building will be CO by 30 feet, and has two large plateglass windows and a suspended verandah 13 feet wide. Many labour-and-space-saving devices are included in the storeroom, which has a raised loading bank. The contract price is in the vicinity of £I3OO.
In Princes street Messrs. McDermott Bros, are erecting two up-to-date shops in fireproof materials on their old site. The facings of these shops are to be tiled, while special attention has been given to air space and lighting. The windows are to be steel-framed, while in the roof are six patent ventilated skylights. The latest technical knowledge has been used for window lighting. The shops will have a depth of 54 feet. Putaruru contractors have secured both jobs, and the designs clearly indicate that these buildings will be a decided asset to the town.
