LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P., advises that the Minister of Education has authorised a grant for the erection of another classroom at the Putaruru school. The trustees to the Putaruru Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club have authorised alterations to the croquet green which will result in an extra eight feet being gained on two sides, ■t The result of the vote for the most popular hymn was announced by Rev. W. T. Brabyn at the community sing held in the Presbyterian Hall last Thursday evening. Henry Francis Tyte’s beautiful hymn “ Abide With Me ” was an easy first and was followed in popularity by “ Rock of Ages,” “Sun of My Soul,” “Nearer My God to Thee ” and “ Lead Kindly Light.”
Farmers who favour the Friesian breed of dairy cattle will have a very good opportunity of building up their foundation,;.stock with some of the finest Friesians in the Dominion. Mr. E. C. Banks’ sale takes place at the Matamata saleyards next Friday, when the Farmers' Auctioneering Company will offer 98 lot's, all with top-notch breeding and butterfat backing.*
