WOMEN ON THE FARM.

IMPROVING CONDITIONS. Proposed Union Discussed. At Saturday’s meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Mr. M. E. Barrowclough, of Mangateparu, said there was a movement in Morrinsville to start a women’s division of the j Farmers’ Union, and he had been re- i quested to ask the branch to give it every assistance possible. It was not a matter of money, as the required funds were in hand, but it wanted “ boost ” to send it on its way. He understood there were similar organisations functioning successfully in Hamilton and Cambridge. Mr. Seifert said Mrs. Poison had been in Morrinsville a few days ago and had spoken of the scheme to a number of Morrinsville women. The objects of the division were to assist the country women. The principal means were by the employment of a visiting nurse and housekeeper, who would be in charge of the domestic duties of the home while the farmer’s wife took a holiday. It seemed to him an excellent scheme and would do much to ameliorate conditions for women on the land. A small fee was charged. Mr. Seifert thought the scheme would be of advantage to the union. The point was how to infuse life into it. Messrs. S. Ferguson, Barrowclough and Seifert were appointed a committee to go into the matter. “ They’ll have a picnic,’" remarked Mr. P. S. Philpott facetiously. The committee is to report at next meeting.
