N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

MOP.RINSVILLE BRANCH. Well-Lit ended Monthly Meeting. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting, of the Morrinsvilie l ranch of the New Zealand Farmers,' Union, which was held in the Lounge Tearooms on Saturday evening. The more congenial surroundings undoubtedly influenced the attendance, and the serving of supper gave the meeting a more social aspect. Mr. J. M. Allen was in the chair. “ There is nothing like getting both sides of the question,” said Mr. P. S. Philpott in moving that a request from Mr. F. Lye to address the union he granted. “ Personally I would like to see all the candidates along here,” said the president, Mr. J. Allen. The motion was passed, the secretary being instructed to invite Mr. I,ve to address the next monthly meeting.

A report on the proposed smoke concert was presented, and it was decided to hold the function on July 14, the next ordinary meeting of the branch being fixed for July 7. It was suggested that members of the Matamata and Putaruru branches be requested to attend and if possible supply a little talent. The subscription was fixed at ss.

Mr. P. S. Philpott, who represented the branch at the recent conference of the Auckland provincial executive, gave a report on the business transacted. The meeting passed a motion thanking Mr. Philpott for his services. “ I do not think the Auckland executive is quite playing the game with us,” said the president. No notice had been sent advising the branch of the date of the conference, nor was the agenda paper forwarded until the last minute. It was most unbusinesslike and unfair. With such a bulk of business it was impossible to prepare speeches on the remits and find the wishes of the branch members. The agenda paper should have been in the hands of the branch at least a fortnight before the conference for consideration. On the motion of the president and Mr. Philpott a motion of censure was passed on the executive for its action and urging that in future a specific time be set for the conferences, and the branches advised accordingly, and that the agenda paper be forwarded at least a fortnight before the opening of the conference.

A copy of the motion is to be sent to the Auckland executive. It was decided to ask an officer of the Department of Agriculture to lecture in Morrinsville on stock diseases, especially as relating to dairy cattle, at the first available opportunity.
