THAMES VALLEY POWER.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power board was held on Tuesday of last week, when Mr. F. M. Strange (chairman) presided. There were present : Messrs. F. E. Flatt, H. M. Corbett, W. E. G. Willey, G. Howie, J. McCormack, J. Price, J. V/. Anderson, J. B. Thomas, H. R. Bush and C. A. Arthur. Broken Lines. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, wrote disclaiming liability for the payment of £7 5s for repairs to power line broken by falling boughs from trees growing on Crown sections at Matamata.
The chairman said they ought to take proper care at least. The letter was received. Morrinsville Factory Motor. The Morrinsville Dairy Company wrote advising that it was contemplating installing an additional 400volt motor and asking that the board agree to the proposal. The matter was referred to the engineer. Repayment of £SOOO. The Cambridge Electric Power Board wrote with reference to the repayment of £SOOO advanced by the Thames Valley Board in connection with the Karapiro area. The letter stated that the Cambridge Board made provision in its last loan proposals to repay this sum, and following the failure of recent negotiations it was now compelled to pay interest on the £SOOO included in the loan as well as the £SOOO taken over from the Thames Valley Board. The matter had been further complicated by a ruling from the Audit Department requiring the Cambridge Board to provide a sinking fund on the £SOOO raised in the loan proposal. This meant that the Cambridge Board was paying two amounts of interest and sinking fund on the one amount. The Thames Valley Board was asked to give further consideration of the matter with a view to its acceptance of the repayment at par. The chairman explained that the position was that it was quite possible that in six years they would be refloating that loan and in that case would pay it off. Trouble With Motor. A letter was received from the Hinuera Dairy Company acknowledging the board’s letter with reference to the explanation as to the cause of the trouble with the factory motor. The company pointed out that without going into the technical aspect of the trouble the board’s contention that the whole trouble had been caused by one of the fuses being blown appeared to be begging the question, because obviously a fuse would not blow without a reason. The company regretted that it could not agree with the board’s contention and preferred to submit the matter to an independent opinion. The board decided to accept no liability in the matter. Scale of Charges.
Mr. Price moved that the standing scale of charges be kept for the ensuing year.
Mr. Flatt moved an amendment that the finance committee bring down a report to the next meeting covering the whole scale of charges. The amendment was carried. Sawmillers’ Request. The proprietors of the Maukoro sawmill, Patetonga road, wrote stating that through the winter setting in and flooding the bush it was intended to close down the mill for about three months. A reduction in power charges wag asked for during that period. The matter was referred to the manager. Accounts. Accounts amounting to £10,190 10s Id for lighting and £527 18s lid for power were passed for payment.
