COUNTY TIME-SHEETS.

CHARGE OF FORGING. Against Road Employee. At the Putaruru Court on Tuesday morning Robert Charles Dixon, lately employed by the Matamata County Council as a driver, was charged before Messrs. J. W. Barr Brown and T. F. Snell, J.’sP., with forging and uttering a time-sheet.

Thomas Weir, county foreman, stated accused had been employed on road work at Tokoroa. He had been driving horses and was paid at the rate of Is XOd per hour, Tor the time he actually worked. During April accused worked a total of 22 hours on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. On the 4th he left and returned on the 20th, but was told his job had been taken. On the Saturday he took his swag to Putaruru. Witness filled in his timesheet showing 22 hours for April work, and drew a line over the blanks. The sheet produced was the one filled in by witness, but the alterations and additions were not his. He never authorised any alteration, and Dixon did not work on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th, as shown.

Edgar Ernest Shaw, costing clerk, employed by the Matamata County Council, stated it was his duty to examine time-sheets. He became suspicious of the sheet produced because of a line partly erased, and because of additions. Knowing accused worked with Martin he compared timesheets and found a difference. He next wrote to the foreman, who confirmed his suspicions. Dixon was entitled to 22 hours at Is lOd, instead of 564 hours as shown.

This concluded the evidenc#, and accused, who pleaded guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court, Hamilton, on the 12th Jure, for sentence.
