LIGHT CALENDAR. Putaruru Sitting. There was a very light calendar for the. bi-monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Putaruru, held on Thursday, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M. Negligent Driving. Cecil South, charged by the police with negligently driving a motor-car at Arapuni, stated he pleaded guilty, but would like to explain the circumstances. The police case was that South had run into and damaged a stationary car, which was drawn up by the side of the road. South agreed, but pointed out that he was turning at the time, and had been dazzled by the headlights. The Magistrate: You should have stopped. A fine of £l, plus 10s costs, .with a default of 14 days, was then entered against South’s name. Hori’s Lapse. Hori Ure, a native, appeared to answer a charge of entering an hotel during the currency of a prohibition order.

For accused, Mr. Carter explained that Hori’s order was one of those which went on for ever, or at least until withdrawn by the court. He had to meet his employer near the hotel for payment of wages, and not seeing him had walked in. Hori was then given 14 days in which to find £2, plus 10s costs. Disobedience of Order. James Roche, who had neglected to observe the terms of a maintenance order, made at Putaruru on February 27, to the extent of £4 7s 6d, was convicted and sentenced to one month in Rotorua prison. A clause was added, however, whereby the sentence become non-operative on the clerk of the court receiving the amount named. Civil Cases. Kimber, 13s 2d, costs 10s; Putaruru Town Board v. Francis and 9s 6d, costs 8s; Putaruru Town .Board v. H- Lewis, 9s 6d, costs 10s; .Putaruru Town Board v. W. J. H. Reynolds, 9s 6d, costs 8s; T. F. Snell, v, P, Murray, £1 5s lOd, costs 12s. • Judgment Summonses. Orders on judgment summonses were made as follows:—McDermott Bros. v.'R. McEwan, claim £7 14s 7d. Ordered to pay amount plus 15s 6d costs, at rate of 10s per month. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency V. J. J. Appleton, claim £2l 11s 7d. Ordered to pay amount plus £1 Is costs forthwith; default 21 days Rotorua prison. The Electric Construction Company of New Zealand v. C. Pavitt, claim £8 3s. Ordered to pay amount plus 15s 6d costs forthwith; default 14 days Rotorua prison.
