A correspondent, signing himself “ Londoner,” writes to the Christchurch Press: “ A young New Zealander this morning asked me where the Solent was. He said the previous evening, in his home, where eight grown-ups were assembled, they discussed the air fatality to Lieut. Kinkead, in which the cable mentioned that the unfortunate officer was flying over the Solent when the accident happened. Not one of the eight could say where the Solent was. Many guesses were made, but all wrong. This ignorance seems surprising when one remembers that nearly all our naval manoeuvres commence in the Solent, and . the Dominion Premiers, when they go Home for the Imperial Conference, always go a glorious trip round the Solent and in the Channel to see Britain’s great warships. I have often heard the folks at Home criticised for their lack of knowledge of Dominion geography and history. Are we all birds of a feather ?
