TRAINING SHED.
GOOD RESPONSE. By Business Firms. At the annual meeting of the Putaruru Rugby Club, a suggestion was thrown out that the club make a move to assist the Rugby Union to erect a training shed in Putaruru, which could be used by all sports bodies for training purposes. After the publication of the fact in the Press, a spontaneous move was made by local business people, and already a sum of approximate.y £25 has been paid in as the nucleus of a
fund towards this object. On Monday, when members of the Town Board inspected the streets,
the matter was mentioned, and a town reserve at the corner of Duke and Henderson streets pointed out as an eminently suitable site for the shed, providing it was levelled. As several hundred yards of spoil have to be removed from these streets during the course of the loan works, this section, together with the filling on the road leading to Carberry avenue, can be improved at no cost to ratepayers by the simple process of depositing the excess of earthwork at these points. Providing, therefore, that satisfactory arrangements can be made with legard to certain minor requirements it seems practically certain that at an early date Putaruru will 'have a much-needed training shed for the youth of the town in a very central situation.
It is anticipated that the shed will be erected by voluntary labour, and provided the response to the appeal tor funds continues to meet with generous approval, work should be commenced within the course of the next few weeks.
