GOLF.

MORRINSVILLE CLUB. Season Officially Opens. The Morrinsville Golf Club enjoyed one of the most successful opening days it has ever held on Saturday. There was an exceptionally large attendance, numbers of visitors from outside clubs being present, while local members were well represented. The weather was favourable, and the afternoon passed most enjoyably, mixed foursomes being played. The Mayor, Mr. S. S. Allen, who officially opened the links for play, gave a brief review of the club’s history. Formed 20 years ago, its home had been changed four times. The game was played first in the paddocks of Lockerbie estate, and when the club was turned off there was continued at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s property in Thames street. Later it became necessary to make another move to a Maori section at Kiwitahi, which served until the club tound its present home. He sincerely hoped that it would be its last, as so much journeying about the countryside was not in the best interests of the game. The present was an important occasion, as the club had recently purchased the links from Mr. C. Cameron, a most praiseworthy step. The Mayor, in declaring the links open for the season, said he trusted that the club would continue as successful as the large attendance at the opening portended.

Mr. W. McLean returned the thanks of the Walton club for the enjoyable afternoon spent. He congratulated the club on its enterprise in purchasing the links, and on their present condition, which was a credit to all concerned. The winners of the mixed foursomes were Mrs. McKay and Lock with a nett score of 35. The best cards returned were: Miss Hewitt and McBeth 37, Mrs. Maingay and Ryan 40, Mrs. Jackson and Gow 41, Miss MpNaughton and Adams 41, Mrs. Kenny and Mueller 41.
