A management committee meeting and later a special general meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union was held on Friday evening at Hamilton. There were present : Messrs. A. -Montgomery (president), T. Clarkin (vice-president), H. Cliffe and T. B. Booth (Hamilton), B. Chapman (Putaruru), A. G. Yardley (Matamata), T. A. Cooper and T. Gray (Cambridge) and F. Quin (Waipa). A draft of the annual report was submitted to the management committee and was spoken to by the president. He said that in the past season they had not received the treatment they deserved. They had been promised a game in Auckland, but as no financial assistance was to accompany the invitation the proposed game fell through. Mr. Yardley was firmly of the opinion that the Waikato representative team was not wanted in Auckland last season. The more the country men appeared in Auckland the more limelight they got for the All Black trials. A discussion arose as to the date to be fixed for the annual meeting, but in the absence qf the treasurer it was a matter of uncertainty whether or not the balance-sheet would bet available. Mr. Quin was in-favour of fixing the date of the annual meeting immediately and it was resolved to fix the date for April 28. An application for a change in colours for the Waipa sub-union was made by Mr. Quin and granted. The sub-union’s colours will now be all white in place of black and white. ~ x The Rules. i r A long discussion took place regarding the new constitution, the rules for which were laid on the table. Mr. B. Chapman asked why the alterations as carried at a general meeting in November were not incorporated. The secretary said a letter had been received from the Hamilton sub-union since the general meeting of the Waikato union questioning an alteration to the rules of the new constitution after they had been agreed upon by a conference of the W aikato union and the Hamilton sub-union.

Mr. Chapman further pointed out that the alteration had been made with the full consent of the Hamilton delegates. Mr. Cliffe said the whole trouble was that the consent of the Hamilton sub-union had not been obtained to the alterations and both he and Mr. Booth had been “ put on the mat ” at a meeting of their union through consenting to the new rules without their union’s permission. That was the meaning of the letter of protest before the meeting. Mr. Yardley protested against this, pointing out that both Messrs. Cliffe and Booth had attended the meeting as delegates of the Hamilton subunion and their views were consequently the views of the union they represented. He further pointed out that the annual meeting would have to be governed by the rules adopted by the special general meeting as shown on the minute book and not as printed. The printing of the booklets was a mere waste of money arid should never have been authorised. Mr. Baulf (secretary) said it would be quite easy to add the amendments after the position had been reviewed , l»y the annual meeting. b
