PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.

ADJOURNED MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Putaruru Town Board, which was adjourned last week from pressure of business, was resumed on Monday night, the following members being present: Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), J. C. Tomalin, H. W. Lindsay, C. C. Neal and A. H. Dukeson (clerk). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. W. Yandle and K. McDermott. Transfer. Mr. W. C. Hewitt advised that sections 21 and 37, block 2, Putaruru, were now owned by him, and that section 10, block 2, formerly owned by Mr. John Martin, was also his. Town Planning. The Director of Town Planning (Mr. R. B. Hammond) forwarded particulars of the system of notation to be adopted in illustrating town-planning maps. Mr. Tomalin asked when it was proposed to proceed further with the local scheme of town planning. In his opinion the scheme should be drafted as soon as possible and put on record. The chairman stated that as soon as pressure of work due to the loan was eased the matter would be gone on with. Water Supply. The Medical Officer of Health forwarded the result of the bacteriological and chemical analysis of water from the Oraka river. The results showed that it was a good natural v/ater. If the board decided to utilise the source of supply it would be necessary to control the catchment area. To prevent the access of cattle the stream would need to be fenced in on both sides. The chairman stated the report was a very good one, but the proviso in regard to fencing was out of all reason. If the board proceeded further in the matter they would have to take further action in regard to that clause, as it was utterly impossible to carry it out. Mr. Tomalin agreed it was an absurd restriction, and stated that a ratepayer had told him there were other sources of supply the board had not looked at. A member: Well, now is the tiipe for them to come forward. After further discussion it was decided to defer the matter until a comprehensive report on the financial side was drawn up. Livestock in Town. An application for a permit to build a fowl-house in the business area was refused, as it was against the regulations to keep livestock in this area. Building Permits. A member reported that a garage had been built without a permit. The clerk reported that all builders had been notified of the regulations. It was decided to again write to all builders pointing out the penalty was £lO per day for erecting any building without a permit, and also to write to the owner to the same effect, and demanding the fee forthwith. By-laws. The clerk reported that the bylaws were now to hand and that the usual price of such from other boards was 2s 6d per copy. The chairman pointed out it was to the advantage of all ratepayers to have the books circulated as widely as possible, and suggested that the price be made Is. The suggestion was unanimously adopted.
