BOWLING.
PUTARURU club. General Meeting# —— general meeting of members of Uie Putaruru Bowling Club was held i.i the supper room of the Town Hall in Friday, when the following members were present: —Messrs. A. G. Leggatt (chairman), H. W. Lindsay (hon. secretary), C. E. Hollard, A. C. Thompson, T. F. Snell, A. McMeekin, G. Benton, C. Palmer, A. Hamilton, S. Hudson, J. Murphy, A. Begbie and G. G. Griffiths, ' Mr. McMeekin asked who held the “ Roosters,” and the “ Selwyn Ferns,” as he thought challenge matches should be played. Thg secretary replied that owing to members leaving the district the holder's teams had become depleted. If a challenge were put in the skip would have to reorganise his team.
Mr. Snelfe asked fur information in regard to the trophies, promised by himself and Mr. Dukeson, for the singles ahd pairs competition.
The secretary replied that not knowing what the trophies -were, they had been allotted to competitions slightly different to those intended.
Mr. McMeekin asked what had become of Mr. Hamilton’s prize of a fishing rod. The chairman stated that St had not yet been played for.
Qn tne motion of Messrs. Snell and it was decided to recommend that, the committee go into all competitions and arrange for them to be played off this season.
After further discussion it was decided, on the motion of Messrs. Snell and Hudson, that the prizes of Messrs. Snell and Hamilton be awarded to this year’s handicap pairs, and Mr. Neal’s prize to the handicap singles.
Mr. Hollard urged that all trophie# should be presented at some function, and not left for the winner to call for them. At least they should be handed over on opening day or similar occasions.
The chairman pointed out that some trophies were destroyed in the fire. Two were to be presented that night, but he now felt very reluctant to do so.
Mr. Hollard explained that he did not intend to convey the impression that a special occasion should be arranged for the presentation of trophies.
The secretary stated that he was perhaps largely to blame, but he had not the time to attend to every detail, and had only taken on the secretaryship under protest. Mr. Hudson raised the matter of selection, and held that an error had been made in giving preference.
Mr. Benton supported, and stated that he had been omitted from the team when the “ Australians ” came.'
Messrs. Snell and McMeeking then moved that a selection committee be appointed quite apart from the match committee.
An amendment that a sole selector be appointed with a sub-selector to act in his absence was put forward by Messrs. Hollard and Hudson and carried.
Messrs. Griffiths (selector) and Snell (sub-selector) were then appointed to the positions. Mr. Palmer referred to the decision of the trustees that no cars should be allowed to be parked in the Memorial Park. He thought the decision was too drastic as the main road was unsafe, and he could not afford to take' the risk.
Mr. Thompson, chairman of the trustees, pointed out that damage v/as done by ears running on the new' courts, and there was danger in backing of chipping the memorial. He did not think it was the place for cars, and in any case some would have to remain on the road as there
was not enough room. After further discussion it was decided to ask the trustees if they could secure a parking area nearby. The meeting then closed with expressions of pleasure on all sides at the settling of several knotty points which had been creating some dissatisfaction amongst members.
