PRINCE’S GOOD STORY.
Speaking at a British Legion rally held in the New Broadway Cinema, Stratford, London, the Prince of Wales congratulated the members on turning out on such a cold night. Talking of cold nighGs reminds me of a story of an old quartermaster-ser-geant the Prince proceeded, amidst laughter—one of those old soldiers who never die but simply fade away. (Laughter). I think you know the of the old quartermaster-sergeant, who, after the war, having come into some money, went to live at Southend. He employed an old servant whose job it was to awake him every morning at 5 o’clock, and say—“lt is snowing hard and there is a bit of a ‘strafe’ on, and the quartermaster says you have got to turn out at once and take up rations,” so 'that the quartermastersergeant could reply—“ Tell the quartermaster to go and drown himself” (Laughter).
