STOCK SALES.
MATAMATA. On Wednesday Dalgety and Co., Ltd., conducted their usual fortnightly sale when there was a fair yarding of cattle and pigs. In the sheep section some 2000 were penned, but the sale proved disappointing, there being little competition and many of the lots were passed in. No doubt this is due to the continued hot spell and it is expected that prices and competition will improve after rain has fallen. Prices are as follows: Pigs.—Slips, 17s 6d; weaners, 9s to 12s. Cattle.—Fat cows, £6 10s to £7; forward conditioned cows, £3 7s 6d to £4 15s; stores, £1 10s to £2 17s 6d; cows with calves, £3 5s to £4 9s; bulls £3 10s to £5. Sheep.—Two-tooth ewes, 295; 4 and 6-tooth and 4 and 5-year ewes, 18s 6d to 21s 6d; mixed and aged, 12s 6d to 20s; fat lambs, 15s 6d; woolly lambs, 10s; shorn lambs, 10s 3d. MORRINSVILLE. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Company conducted its fortnightly sale at Morrinsville on Friday. There was a good yarding of sheep. Prices for beef were firm, being in advance of the previous sale. Three pens of fat steers sold on behalf of Howie Bros., Kiwitahi, realised from £lO to £lO 15s. Pigs were yarded in large numbers and were sold at rates on a par with recent sales. Prices were :
Sheep.—Fat ewes 15s 6d to 17s 7d; medium fat lambs to 21s ; small store lambs 10s ; breeding ewes (6tooth to 5-year) 22s 6d to 25s ; sound-mouthed breeding ewes 15s to ISs ; culled ewes Ss 2d. Cattle.—Medium fat steers £lO to £lO 15s ; prime heavy cows and heifers from £8 5s to £lO 10s ; light fat heifers (good quality) £6 13s ; medium fat cows £6 to £7 4s : light fat cows and heifers £4 5s to £5 11s ; fresh-conditioned cows £3 7s to £4 Is ; store cows £2 to £3 ; 18-months Jersey heifers (r.w.b.) £5 10s to £5 12s 6d ; good-quality Jersey heifer calves £3 2s to £3 11s ; good Friesian heifer calves £2 12s ; light potting bulls £3 to £4 ; dairy cows £4 15s to £6. Pigs.—Medium baconers £2 10s to £2 13s ; heavy porkers £2 3s to £2 6s ; light porkers 34s to 40s, unfinished 26s to 32s ; stores were easy on a par with late rates ; slips 10s to 13s ; best weaners Gs to 8s Gd, smaller 2s to ss. WAIKATO MARKET. REPORT. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Company reports under date of February 15:— Beef.—There has been no change in the market. Prices are firm, with sufficient offering to satisfy the demand, with prices likely to improve during the autumn. Exporters are still operating on ox beef at close on to 30s per 1001 b, best cow and heifer making 24s to 255. Store Sheep.—Fairs have been held at Kauroa, Waingaro, Coromandel, Oparau, Tapu and Tirau, and competition lias been keen for all classes, practically the whole of the yardings having changed hands at satisfactory prices. Store Cattle.—Very small yardings have been coming forward, with a good demand for grown and young steers. There is also a good inquiry for choice Jersey heifer weaners and good young store cows.
Pigs.—Heavy yardings continue to come forward for both fats and stores. Prices are slightly better for, jh, - fats, with all classes of stores low, 1 especially weaners. Horses.—The market for all classes is very quiet.
Quotations are: Bullocks, prime heavy £ll 15s to £l2 10s, medium £9 10s to £lO 10s ; cows, prime heavy £8 5s to £8 10s, medium £6 5s to £6 los, unfinished £4 10s to £5 5s ; heifers, prime £7 5s to £8 5s ; good store cows £4 os to £4 15s ; cull cows £1 10s to £2 ; steers, 4-year forward £7 15s to £B, 4-year stores £7 5s to £7 10s, 3-year stores £6 5s to £6 10s, 21-year stores £5 to £5 10s, 18months £3 15s to £4 5s ; choice Jersey and Jersey-cross weaner heifers £3 5s to £4 ; 18-months Jersey-cross in-calf heifers £7 5s to £7 10s. Sheep : Wethers, prime heavy shorn 26s to 275, prime medium 24s 6d to 25s 6d ; ewes, prime shorn 16s 6d to 17s 6d, medium 14s to 15s ; lambs, prime fat 22s to 24s ; wethers, 4tooth stores 22s 6d to 23s 6d, 2-tooth stores 20s to 21s ; breeding ewes, good 5-year 22s 6d to 245, good 4year 25s to 265, 4-tooth to 5-year 22s to 24s Gd, sound-mouth 18s to 20s, aged 14s to 16s, 2-tooth 26s to 28s Gd ; lambs, best woolly store 14s to 15s Gd, medium woolly store 12s to 13s, best shorn store 13s 6d to 14s 6d, medium shorn store 10s 6d to 12s, small store Ss 6d to 10s. Pigs : Baconers, prime £2 15s to £2 17s, medium £2 8s to £2 10s ; porkers, best £2 os to £2 8s ; slips 25s to 27s ; weaners 8s to 14s. Horses : Draughts, heavy £2B to £34, medium £25 to £32 ; spring cart sorts £l6 to £lB ; hacks and harness horses £5 to £lO.
