A CATTLE DEAL.
FALSE PRETENCES ALLEGED. Bunting to Go for Trial. A man named Walter J. Bunting, stock salesman, of Hamilton, was committed for trial at Hamilton last Wednesday on a charge of false pretences. Bunting is alleged to have obtained 31 head of cattle from Mr. Francis Rose, of Tirau. It is alleged that in November Bunting procured thirty heifers and a cow from Mr. Rose, stating that he had a buyer named McCray at Te Akau. A cheque for £l9B Is 6d was received by Mr. Rose but was not honoured either when presented or since. Some of the cattle had been identified since on the farm of a man named G. Fowler at Glen Murray.
Further evidence was given that accused sold 69 head of cattle at the Ngaruawahia sale on December 2. Some of these were purchased by Fowler.
Constable Brown, Ngaruawahia, said he had been unable to trace any man of the name of McCray in his district.
Percy Harold Watts, solicitor, gave evidence regarding a conversation in which Bunting said he could produce McCray when it suited him. Accused asked for time to pay the money to Rose.
Accused pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence.
