DAIRY FACTORY MANAGERS.
MEETING AT MORRINSVILLE. A meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association was held at Morrinsville on Tuesday. Condolence. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. W. H. Harkness, formerly Government cheese grader and instructor, of Hamilton, was carried, members standing in silence. General. Arrangements were completed for the holding of a managers’ butter and cheese grading conference at Auckland in March. An invitation to attend is to be extended to all directors and other executive officers of dairy companies. Dominion Remits. Resolutions to be forwarded to the Dominion Executive were adopted as follow: “ That the Dominion Secretary be requested to represent the N.Z.D.F.M.A. at the Industrial Conference called by the Government to be held at Wellington on March 29, 1928; and that endeavours be made by the Dominion Executive to have representative expert evidence relating to employees tendered by butter, cheese and other milk products factory managers before the Parliamentary or other committees appointed to deal with labour questions as related to dairy factories.” “ That, while 'disagreeing with the principle of ‘ preference to unionists ’ and arbitrary terms of awards, the Auckland Provincial Eexcutive recognise the need for employees’ unions, and is of the opinion that as long as the Arbitration Court continues to function no exemption from the jurisdiction of this Court should be .granted To dairy factories.”
